Funder: Office for First Minister and Deputy First Minister (OFMDFM)

Amount funded: £25,000

Dates: Project delivered between January 2016 and March 2016

Project aim: ‘Try Rugby Values’ was a Schools twinning programme aimed at Year 8 and Year 9 pupils designed to improve community relations among young people from different backgrounds.

Key achievements: 483 young people from 18 Mainstream Schools and 168 young people from Special Educational Needs (SEN) Schools took part in the programme. They were involved in a tour of the Kingspan Stadium and the Nevin Spence Centre, as well as sports themed good relations workshops.

Feedback from the schools involved was extremely positive, with the young people themselves indicating that they now have a more positive perception towards those from other communities and backgrounds.

Quotations:

“Great ipad workshop – kids had no idea about GAA and learned a lot”

“I learned the history of the Kingspan Stadium and the history of GAA”

“I learnt about other sports and working with others.”
