On Thursday 11th February, Ulster Rugby held a virtual shirt presentation to recognise and celebrate the success of players who were selected to represent the Ulster Carpets Ulster U18 Clubs side in the previously arranged Inter-Provincial fixture against Munster, due to take place in March 2020.
Unfortunately, due to the onset of COVID-19, these players never got the opportunity to play the game, but it had always been the intention to acknowledge their selection with an official shirt presentation. With the public restrictions remaining in place, the Ulster Branch Youth Committee decided to opt for a virtual presentation.
The presentation was conducted in the company of current Youth Committee Chairman, Paul Hart, ex Ireland and Ulster captain, Rory Best, and current Sub-Academy player, Ben Moxham, who recently made his debut at senior level. Addressing the young players, Rory and Ben were able to share their pathway experiences and the importance of persistence and hard work in furthering their careers, as well as the value of the club game in helping promote enjoyment and continued development.
Ben Moxham shared his rugby pathway with the team.
Rory Best spoke about the importance of club rugby.
Each player will receive the match day shirt via their club representative in the near future and the meeting was concluded with Paul Hart thanking the players for their efforts and congratulating them on their achievement.
Ulster Rugby would like to thank the players and parents for the commitment they have shown over the past number of years within the programme and the clubs in helping support the development of these players. We also extend our thanks to Ulster Carpets – sponsors of club youth rugby in the province – for their continued support.
We look forward to seeing the players continue to play and enhance the club game.
