Ulster Carpets Club of the Month award for Banbridge

Banbridge RFC have picked up an Ulster Carpets Youth Club of the Month award, in recognition for having the highest number of new player registrations this season.

On collecting the award, the club’s Youth Convenor, Tim Honeyford said, “We have been working hard to increase the standard of coaching at Banbridge in order to recruit new players, so we’re delighted with this award. We have moved away from a more amateur setup towards a more professional model, making sure our coaches continue to develop and obtain their qualifications.

“Being located outside of Belfast, we have had to make a concerted effort to reach out to recruit players, and to do this, we have a set programme for young players at U14 level right through to senior level.

“The development of a thriving youth section is vitally important for a club like Banbridge. We were aware that our youth players weren’t breaking through to the senior side, so we made a change to have a sustainable player pathway. It’s the old adage, ‘you can’t stand still to grow’; it’s crucial to the club’s future having high player numbers, which is why we devoted our efforts to recruiting more young players.”
