Calor has supported Ulster Youth rugby for almost 15 years but this major new deal will see the Youth teams embark on a new approach in terms of individual development and preparation.
In addition to supporting the Ulster Youth (U18) Representative team, dedicated strength and conditioning coaches have for the first time been allocated to each of the U16 and U17 Regional Development Squads. The programme has been developed in conjunction with the Ulster Rugby Academy and the IRFU Conditioning Development Manager, with the aim of educating players in the area of diet, strength and conditioning.
David Boyd, Provincial Domestic Game Manager at the Ulster Branch commented, "this valuable commitment to the future development of Ulster Youth rugby is a logical extension of the commitment shown by Calor Gas over many years. It is an essential part of the strategy to develop local talent to its fullest potential for the success of Ulster Rugby at all levels."
Supporting the announcement of Calors extended sponsorship of Ulster Youth was Ulster and Ireland player Stephen Ferris (pictured). Stephen, a former Ulster Youth Calor player of the year, is a prime example of the talent there is here in the Province and the importance the Ulster Youth system plays in developing the skills of our future provincial and national players.
Commenting on the new deal, Sales Manager of Calor Gas, Mark McClements said, "The modern game is more demanding, and this sponsorship secures the strength and conditioning programmes required to develop young players to their fullest potential. Calor is delighted at the prospects this sponsorship offers for the future of Ulster Rugby."
This includes the activities of the four U16 Youth regional development squads, as well as the two U17 regional development squads and Ulster Youth (U18) squad.
