Last Friday saw 6 schools qualify for the Western Regional Final of the Girls Schools Cup which took place at Enniskillen RFC.
Last Friday saw the Western Regional Final of the Girls Schools Cup which took place at Enniskillen RFC. Six schools qualified for the Finals which saw last year's winners Enniskillen Collegiate showing good form in the first round matches.
Mount Lourdes who won the tournament the year before and St Mogues from Cavan looked like the early threats however some good attacking rugby from Devenish College saw them secure a place in the Semi Final stages. The Collegiate and Devenish College battled it out in the first semi final with last years winners being put under some early pressure, however when the final whistle blew the Collegiate booked their regional final spot as they won 2 tries to 1.
The second semi final was always going to be a close encounter with Mount Lourdes and St Mogues eager to reach the final match stages, the match could have went either way however it was Mount Lourdes who progressed to meet the Collegiate in the Final. The Final got under way with both teams hungry for the Ravenhill spot, it was Mount Lourdes who got on the score sheet first with a well worked try to go into the lead, however the Collegiate fought back to level the scores. Excellent defence by both teams saw the game go into extra time with both aware that the next score would be the winner.
Mount Lourdes had two tries disallowed, due to a knock on and a player only having one tag on after crossing the line and luck obviously wasn't on their side as the Collegiate made a break and scored to seal their place at Ravenhill. They will meet the Eastern Finalists Grosvenor Grammar on Wed 24th March at 1pm.
