The Ulster Schools' U18 Management team has announced an extended squad of some fifty-three players from twenty schools to take part in a number of screening games during April and early May.
Following the last of these games, against Schools' Cup winners, Ballymena Academy, the management team will reduce the numbers in the squad for the summer training programme. This training programme will provide the opportunity for the Management team to work with the players in preparation for games against Yorkshire and Lancashire Schools' U18s at the end of August. The squad will then look towards the Irish Schools' Inter Provincial series of games against Leinster, Munster and Connacht Schools' U18 teams which will take place in early September 2010.
The squad has been selected following the Ulster Schools' U16 Blitz Day, an U17 Development game against Coleraine AI and the work that players have done in the U17 Development squad throughout the season. Players were watched in the course of recent Northern Bank Ulster Schools' Cup games. All players involved were originally nominated by their schools as being of potential representative standard.
Players such as John Donnan, Rory Scholes, John Creighton, Shay Mc Intosh and Jonny Mc Laughlin have already represented Ulster Schools' at representative level.
