The IRFU (Ulster Branch) are currently planning a series of evening sessions devoted to Safeguarding Workshop.
In collaboration with SportsNI the Branch are able to offer the training to staff and volunteers alike. Each participant receives a certificate for attending the course.
The first of several sessions organised for September took place in Malone rugby club on Wednesday 1st. Amongst those who attended were the Active Community coaches, the new Community Rugby Officers appointed by the Ulster Branch to work in local clubs and several volunteers who are setting up a Special Needs tag rugby club in Donaghadee rugby club.
The Child Welfare Officer Brian Maltman presented the course and commented on the enthusiasm of the participants during the three hours in "the classroom".
"Everyone approached this delicate subject with an open mind, and I hope went away with a greater awareness of the need for safeguarding our Age Grade players in the club situation"
When other courses become available they will be advertised on the web site.
