In what is traditionally the busiest time of year for schools' rugby, high schools around the province are preparing for the most prestigious event in their season: the Northern Bank Under 16 High Schools' Trophy.
Máire Cahill

Eight teams from across Ulster entered the competition, which saw teams play off against each other to claim a place in the semi finals and final stages. Matches lasted 15 minutes, and as the sun shone on the beach, the competition quickly hotted up.
The Ulster Branch team (even with three novices) fought off stiff competition to claim a place in the semi finals against eventual winners, the Smooth Criminals. Great sportsmanship was displayed throughout the day, with teams congratulating their opponents at the end of every match. As the Branch staff exited the competition, having claimed a very worthy joint third place along with Scott Wilson Wolves, all members were in high spirits as they went for a quick dip in the sea before settling down to watch the final match.
Congratulations to team Ulster Branch which was made up of Darryl Callaghan, Michael Black, Brian O'Shaughnessy, Jonathan Quigley, Cathy Craig, Joy Sparkes, Maire Cahill, Dawn Patton and Jackie Maltman, with exceptional leadership from the one and only Team Manager Brian Maltman (AKA Sandy Castle)and Chief sideline supporter, Marlene Dickson!
Once the competition ended, the weary but happy Taggers made their way to the Ramada where the winners were presented with their trophy and everyone was treated to a post-match supper and screening of the Lions match. The celebrations got underway and lasted until the early hours!
Congratulations to all teams who took part in the competition and everyone is looking forward to Beach Tag 2010!
