| The final Schools' competition, The Northern Bank Medallion Trophy was played at Ballyclare RFC between Larne Grammar School and Downshire from Carrickfergus before a 200 strong crowd. Although the sun shone, a strong wind blowing straight down the pitch ensured it would be a game of two halves. Playing against the wind, Downshire started strongly but relieving kicks from Graeme Davidson and Aaron McBride relieved the pressure. Two well- taken penalties by McBride and a try from Larne Skipper, Billy Brown (also Man of the Match), converted by McBride, gave Larne Grammar a 13 - 0 lead at half time.
The second half belonged to Downshire and the only heroic defence from Larne, in particular from Brown and Davidson who made two outstanding cover tackle, maintained the lead. Mid way through the half Alex Hagan took an inside pass and crashed over mid way out bringing the score to 13-5. Larne struggled to get out of their half and with 5 minutes to go scrum half Ben Wright cleverly chipped the Larne defence and fielded the ball to score under the posts, Hagan converting. With the score at 13-12 Larne then produced the move of the game when Brown picked up from a scrum, fed McBride who interchanged passes with Ross Williamson but was tackled just short of the try line. The referee's whistle went for no side and Larne Grammar were left celebrating their second trophy win of the season, a first for the Co Antrim school.
