Girls Schools' Cup: Coleraine Qualifiers
20 March 2008, 3:25 pm
By Maire Cahill
This year’s Girls’ Schools’ Cup competition is now underway, with the Coleraine area qualifiers taking place recently at the University of Ulster
Despite a last minute change of venue due to the poor weather conditions, there was still a very impressive turnout at the event.

The 8 teams who entered the qualifiers came from Strabane, Derry, Coleraine and Magherafelt. Everyone really enjoyed the day, despite the weather, and although Leprachaun Rugby was the main game being played, the teachers seemed keen to see more contact brought into the game. This is certainly something that development officers are keen to introduce to the qualifiers in the future.

Both the Foyle School and Coleraine H.S. displayed some particularly good rugby skills, which really impressed the development officers. There were no injuries or major incidents to report and development officers spoke of the real potential to develop the game of rugby among young women due to the enthusiasm shown at the qualifiers.

Development officers who organised the event would like to thank all the staff from the participating schools and for their willingness to travel a distance to attend. Details of the next round of the competition will be announced soon.

Below are pictures of some of the schools who participated in the qualifiers at Coleraine:
