Ulster took a while to get going in the first half with the opening exchanges game played out deep in their half and at half-time there was just one point the difference with Ulster leading 7-6 thanks to a Ryan Caldwell try in the 28th minute, converted by Niall O'Connor versus two Ceri Sweeney penalties.
Ulster's confidence grew as the match progressed and when Dragons' prop Adam Black was red-carded early in the second half on 49 minutes for foul play, allegedly kneeing Ulster's Declan Fitzpatrick in the head, it didn't take this rejuvenated looking Ulster side long to capitalise.
Rory Best touched down for the second try in the corner after a line-out move and although O'Connor failed to land the tricky kick from the touch-line.
The Dragons almost replied to keep in touch when left-wing Richard Fussell made a break up the centre of the pitch but the Ulster defence held stong and soon began to push the Dragons back into their own half.
After that it was mostly one way traffic with tries from Bryn Cunningham on 61 minutes, converted by O'Connor and Isaac Boss' 69th minute effort securing Ulster's first winning bonus point of this League campaign, O'Connor adding the conversion to put Ulster 28-6 ahead.
Williams fully utilised his replacements bench bringing all his players on during the second half and to the strains of "Stand Up for the Ulstermen" ringing out around Ravenhill, Ulster added another two uncoverted tries to their haul - winger Simon Danielli's close-range effort on 75 minutes and four minutes later, Paddy Wallace's breakaway touch-down.
Dragons sneaked a consolation score and their only try in the dying seconds of the game when Phillip Dollman gathered from a chip ahead, converted by Aled Thomas.
Final Score: Ulster 38 - 13 Dragons.
