The Dragons opened the scoring with a Ceri Sweeny penalty goal after Ulster were caught off-side in the 4th minute and added a try just a few minutes later when winger Gareth Wyatt touched down in the corner.
Niall O’Connor got Ulster’s frst points on the board through a penalty after Dragons out-half Ceri Sweeny was penalised by the referee for dissent, the kick was in front of the posts and O’Connor had the distance to make it count. Dragons 8 – 3 Ulster
Centre Darren Cave looked as though in could be in for Ulster’s first try on 29 minutes after he intercepted a Dragons pass but just when he looked to be almost clear he was tap tackled by the Dragons No8, he managed to off-load the ball but Ulster were unable to finish t off.
Ulster went down to 14 men when Matt McCullough, who had already come to the attention of referee George Clancy on a couple of occasions, was sin-binned for repeatedly infringing and coming in from the side. Sweeny added to penalty for the Dragons to push them eight points in front before adding another three-pointer just before the break.

Ulster doubled their points tally at the start of the second half when Niall O’Connor added a penalty after the Dragons were caught offside.
McCall made use of his bench with a number of substitutions during the second half starting with Bryn Cunningham, on for Darren Cave and Tom Court replacing Declan Fitzpatrick in the front row while Dragons Coach Paul Turner was able to call on a couple of his Welsh international players, already back in action for their clubs.
Ulster's discipline cost them another 10 minutes with just 14 men when openside David Pollock was sin-binned for being off his feet at the ruck, Ceri Sweeny added the points to push Dragons further ahead, Dragons 17 – 6 Ulster
Things began to look bleak for Ulster when Dragons centre Gomer-Davies crossed the whitewash for their second try, converted by Sweeny to bring the Dragons' tally to 24 points. However Ulster responded almost immediately with a unconverted try from Tom Court, although the video replay may show that the visitors caught a lucky break with the replacement prop losing control of the ball over the line. Dragons 24 - 11 Ulster.
The final nail in Ulster’s coffin came when Dragons' second row, Luke Charteris crossed the line unopposed as Ulster’s defence was stretched in the dying minutes of the game, Sweeny drilled the ball between the posts to end a disappointing evening for Ulster Rugby and indeed all four of the Irish sides who suffered defeat this weekend.
