Wayne’s first involvement in rugby was at primary school in P5. He attended Tandragee Primary School and his coach selected him to play in a tournament for the P7 team, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He then joined Portadown’s mini section and has played there ever since, right through the age groups. Wayne now plays for the clubs’ 1st XV and is a regular in the starting team. He has also represented his county (Armagh) at U16 level and Ulster at U18 and U19 level. What Wayne enjoys most about his job as a YDO is that he can pass on all the knowledge he has gained to the kids he coaches. He believes this is very important because if they are not taught at this young age, they may not fulfil their true potential.
