Joy Sparkes - RDO
Mobile: 0773 267 6382
Email: joy@ulsterrugby.com
Area Covered: Ulster
The women’s regional development officer role differs from the RDO role in that it deals specifically with developing and promoting girls/women’s rugby throughout Ulster. The main responsibilities within this post includes; developing new clubs and supporting existing ones, coach education, player screening at both Schools/Club U18 Tournaments, as well as organising various tournaments, taking U18 Sessions, and dealing with general public requests.
Joy started playing rugby over ten years ago after finding out about a nearby rugby club (Cooke RFC) while she was playing hockey for school. Since then she has never looked back having represented both Ulster and Ireland as well as playing in the previous Women’s World Cup that was held in Barcelona. Joy has since retired from the Irish squad but remains a current member of the Ulster Squad. She describes her job as very challenging and diverse, but finds it rewarding to see girls enjoying and progressing in rugby. Joy has been with the branch for four years now and is delighted at the progression of girls/women’s rugby during that time.
