David Wilkinson - Referee Development Officer

David played at school for Portora Royal School and for the University of Glasgow, while undertaking a Geography Degree, but after a hand injury ended his brief playing career David turned to the whistle.

Refereeing actively since 2001 he feels that refereeing is a great alternative to playing or coaching. David, one of Ireland top 15 referees, is keen to help develop the next batch of officials. He feels that the constant development of referees is crucial for the domestic game and in turn the professional rugby. Without a referee, there can be no game!

David is responsible for the development and delivery of key referee programmes including the Associate, Schoolboy and New Recruits Courses, as well as running the IRFU Referee Pathway Workshops.
