Matt Williams took the reins as Head Coach in early February of the 2007/08 season.
As Head Coach of Leinster he guided the side to a Celtic League title and Heineken Cup semi-final with many attributing the Dublin sides success to the foundations that Williams laid in his time with the club. His stint as Ireland A Coach during his time in Dublin means that the 46 year old comes to Ulster with an in-depth knowledge of the Irish rugby set-up.
Williams added further International experience to his credentials when he was selected to become the first foreign Head Coach of Scotland from 2003-05. Having been back in his native Australia for the past two years coaching Sydney Club West Harbour RFC, Williams accepted his position at Ulster Rugby at the beginning of January 2008, agreeing a two and a half year contract which will see him at Ravenhill until at least 2011.
