| Following the huge success of last year’s tournament, where the Taggers travelled to Worcester only to be narrowly defeated in the final by a Welsh team, all parties agreed that the tournament should become an annual event. So it is now the turn of the Belfast club to play host at Newforge Country Club this weekend.
The tournament has grown significantly from last year with 18 teams from across Ireland, England and Wales taking part. The visiting teams will arrive in Belfast on Friday 6th June and the tournament will take place on Saturday 7th from 12 noon to 5pm, finishing with a celebratory barbeque and disco.
All participants will be categorised into 2 age groups: those under 15 and the remainder over 15.
The aim of the Tag Rugby Festival is to ensure that people throughout the province with a learning disability have a better opportunity to participate in Tag Rugby at a competitive level.
Preparations for the tournament got underway early in the season for the Taggers, with several members of the Ulster squad, including club patron, Paul Steinmetz, regularly coming along to training sessions on a Sunday morning.
This year’s tournament looks set to be a great success, with excitement slowly building among all the participants. For further information on the tournament, please contact Ted Hall on 07802403389/ teddy@tedhall6.wanadoo.co.uk
