| Jenny Daly, Christine Floyd and Roy Greer will travel to Spain as part of an ongoing partnership between Moneyrea PS and schools in Spain, and Poland, which has been funded by the British Council.
Last year the schools were learning about traditional dances and teachers from Moneyrea taught Scottish Country Dancing to schools in Poland and Spain. The pupils from Moneyrea then had opportunity to learn and perform dances from Poland Spain and Turkey.
This year the focus is on National Sports and Playground Games. The Moneyrea staff have chosen rugby as their National Sport. During the week they will be teaching the basics of Tag Rugby to a class of 11 year olds. This will be a completely new experience for the Spanish children.
At the end of the week the children will take part in a demonstration tournament which will be watched by the pupils and their parents.
Moneyrea P.S. will provide their Spanish hosts with a full Tag Rugby kit in the school, complete with rugby balls as well as other goodies donated by Sport Northern Ireland and the Ulster Branch of the IRFU.
The school is grateful to Sport Northern Ireland and the Ulster Branch for their generosity in helping to make this unique teaching opportunity a very special experience for the Spanish children. The staff are particularly grateful to Ulster Rugby for the assistance of their Development Officers in planning the teaching programme which has already been taught to pupils in Poland.
