24 teams from across Northern Ireland competed in the P5, P6 and P7 age groups, with over 350 children participating. Fortunately, the weather stayed dry providing favourable playing conditions and substantial support attended for all the teams involved.
As in previous years, the tournament was based on initial pool stages, with all teams in each pool playing each other before progressing to either a Cup or Plate Semi Final. The successful semi finalists then progressed to either a Cup or Plate Final.
Although a very competitive event there was an excellent spirit of fair play and mutual respect.
In the P5 age group Lisburn managed to secure a win in the Plate competition following extra time in the final with Portadown. Cooke secured a win in the Cup final.
In the P6 age group the Plate was won by Portadown, Cooke and Malone sharing the Cup.
The P7 Plate was won by Lurgan and the Cup by Lisburn following a tense and highly competitive 1 – 0 victory over Coleraine.
The tournament was again supported by Sport Lisburn, along with sponsorship from DB Tiles, Titan Tanks and Clements Coffee. BFBS Radio Station also attended the event providing music throughout the event and announcing the matches as the tournament progressed.
A special thanks needs to be extended to all the referees who assisted on the day plus all the help provided by the Mini Coaches and their families in organising this event.
