Melrose Sevens and Tens Round-Up

The Flybe Ulster President's side reached the semi-finals of the prestigious Melrose Sevens tournament on Saturday (12th April)...
The President's Team started the day with a 28-5 win over Watsonians and then defeated the Australian side, Gold Coast Breakers 25-5 to make it through to the semi-finals but were defeated 19-5 by the sevens specialists the Scottish Thistles,  Scotland's National Sevens Development  Team.

The Thistles went on to win the tournament, defeating Leicester Tigers 33-12 in the final of the 125th Melrose Sevens at Greenyards.

The anniversary tournament, broadcast live on BBC Scotland, was played in front of 12,000 fans who appropriately witnessed 125 tries.

Meanwhile, the Ulster Veterans Team that had competed in an over 35s tens competition on the Thursday and Friday were celebrating success after after a clean sweep of results over the two day tournament.

The Vets were Pool Winners after Day 1 of competition on Thursday with an impressive set of results against The Hague (45-15), Glasgow Hawks (42-5) and Ledbury (65-0).
On Friday, Day 2 and despite heavy rain, the team recorded a semi-final win over host club Melrose before going on to defeat the Border Reivers 17-5 in the tournament final.
