Armagh Win the Powerade Towns' Cup
26 March 2008, 9:26 am
By Maire Cahill
Armagh lifted the Powerade Towns' Cup on Monday with an easy 49-6 victory over neighbours Portadown
It turned into a one-sided affair between two of the top sides in junior rugby. But with Ulster champions Portadown only able to field four of their regular senior side due to AIL Qualifying commitments, they were no match for an Armagh side.

There were first half tries for Edward Orr, Alistair Birch and Davy Martin, with Johnny Steenson converting one and adding a penalty, and Barry Gribben replying with two penalties for Portadown.

Armagh, who had dominated throughout, punished Portadown early in the second half for going a man down when prop, Adam Aigbokhae was sin-binned. Ralph Mercer, Ali Redpath and Jonny Allen each went over for tries along with Steenson, with prop Melvyn Hopps adding a conversion. There was an eighth try for substitute Joe Clarke in the closing minutes.
