| Ulster Branch development officers have been busy organising a number of Tag Rugby blitzes throughout the province, and the Belfast Area Tag Blitz was held recently. Primary schools who qualify from each blitz go forward to Tag Extravaganza for each area.
At the Belfast Blitz, 14 teams from 9 primary schools took part in the morning part of the Belfast Tag Blitz. Play got underway in good conditions with some great Tag Rugby being played. Development officers were very impressed by the skills displayed and the high scoring shown in the blitz with the game between Cairnshill and Newtownbreda ending in a 4-all draw, and a 6-0 win for Blythefield.
11 rounds were played in perfect weather conditions, but play slowed down later in the morning when the weather turned poor. The players still enjoyed the day and were happy to play on.
At the end of the morning the three teams to qualify for the Belfast Tag Extravaganza were Cairnshill Primary, Gilnahirk Primary and Newtownbreda Primary Schools. Cairnshill P.S were the only undefeated school in the morning’s action, but despite some teams being knocked out of the competition, spirits remained high and good sportsmanship remained.
Some of the schools competing can be seen below:
