By Maire Cahill
On Wednesday the 27th February, Armagh RFC hosted the Bell Lawrie U14 League Final between Ballynahinch and Monaghan.
Monaghan put pressure on Ballynahinch straight from the kick off. Five minutes into the game this pressure was rewarded with a penalty, which was slotted over by Lorcan McGillan.  The game settle down with both teams having a go at attacking. It was during one of Ballynahinch's attacks that Monaghan turned over the ball, and released their winger Samuel Foentijies.  Away down the left wing dodging players and breaking through tackles to score near the post, Lorcan McGillan converted. Samuel Foentijies scored his second try two minutes later. The conversion kick was just short.  The score at half time 0 - 15 to Monaghan.

After the restart Ballynahinch applied the pressure but were unable to produce any points from it. Then it was Monaghan's turn to gain territorial advantage, resulting in a try by Johnny McGuigan, again converted by Lorcan McGillan.  Despite the Monaghan's lead, Ballynahinch never gave up, and attacked the Monaghan line with vigour, again and again.  Eventually a gap opened up and Luc Bonnargent burst through, and over the line to touch down between the post. Luc then converted his own try.  Ballynahinch seemed to have hope in their game, but were unable to add to the scoreboard.  Final Score Ballynahinch 7 Monaghan 22. Towy Neale - Ulster Youth Secretary thanked Armagh RFC for hosting the final, and Brian Banks for refereeing the game. And  he also thanked Ulster and Ireland Tommy Bowe for presenting the cup to the winner, a real treat for the young players who got their photo taken with Tommy afterwards.
