| Organised by Community Rugby Development Officers, Benjy Van Der Byl and Alan Robinson, the event aimed to prepare transition year students, teachers and coaches to introduce and develop the fundamental skills of Leprechaun Rugby. The workshop was well attended by teachers from schools in the Moyle District, and also by pupils from Cross and Passion College. The day began with a workshop given by Youth Development Officer, Scott Nelson, in which the aims, rules and characteristics of Leprechaun Rugby were explained, as well as details on how to plan, organise and manage a Leprechaun rugby training session. In order to make the workshop more interactive, group work exercises and question and answer sessions were included, and all participants were enthusiastic and more than happy to get involved.
Following the workshop session inside, Development Officers and all those attending went out to the nearby rugby pitch to put the theory from earlier into practice. Not to be deterred by the miserable weather conditions, the teachers and pupils were put through their paces by the development officers and were shown fun and interesting ways of teaching the game of Leprechaun rugby to children. Various exercises and games were demonstrated and to finish the skills session, teachers and pupils took part in a Leprechaun rugby match.
The emphasis of the day was all about fun and participation, and Development staff received an extremely positive response from all attendees. Everyone was keen to participate in the games and several people said that the fun exercises and skills demonstrated in the workshop and on the pitch would be very helpful in teaching young people the game of Leprechaun rugby.
