| The pupils from Suffolk Primary School and Lenadoon School, St. Oliver Plunkett, have been working hard over the past few weeks, under the guidance of their coaches to learn the rules of ‘Tag Rugby’, a new sport to many of the participants.
Their hard work was rewarded when the two schools came together to take part in a mini European Cup, held on Thursday 7th February. Four teams, comprising students from both schools, competed against each other in an atmosphere of fun and rugby excitement. Each of the schools left the event with a brand new Tag Rugby kit, complete with rugby balls, and a promise to continue their interest in the game. The pupils also received Ulster and Ireland posters to remember the event.
Next week, the Sports Development Officers at the Suffolk and Lenadoon Interface group, along with the pupils from both schools will be travelling to Ravenhill to see how the senior Ulster side fair in their first match under Matt Williams’ reign.
Barry Willis, Youth Development Manager at the IRFU Ulster Branch commented, “We are delighted to work with groups such as the Suffolk Lenadoon Interface group and pleased that they would see rugby as a means of breaking down barriers between communities in Belfast. As ever, we welcome the opportunity to work with any community group who ask for our assistance and hope this newly formed relationship will develop in the future.”
