| The competition which is open to P5 and P6 age groups will welcome clubs from Ballymena, Ballyclare, Cooke, Ards, Donaghadee and it is estimated that over 210 players will be involved. The tournament starts at 4pm and is estimated to finish between 8.30pm and 9pm.
Peter Dolan, from Jermon Developments, the owners and developers of Springhill Shopping Centre, who sponsored the event, said, “Bangor Mini Rugby Floodlit tournament has been running for 15 years and we are delighted to be able to help them with this years tournament and help develop young local sports talent.”
Mini Convenor, Robert Lyle, said, “Mini rugby has gone through a huge expansion in the last few years at Bangor, going from around 60 players seven years ago to 170 players this year in age groups P3, P4, P5, P6, P7 and Maxi (First Form).The tournament has always been one of the highlights of the mini season as most of the kids get their first opportunity to play under lights.
“The sponsorship from Jermon on behalf of Springhill Shopping Centre is extremely important and allows our club to develop and welcome more clubs into the tournament each year.”
The event will be co-ordinated by the P5 Coaches with help from other coaches and volunteers throughout the Club.
Age groups P3 and P5 of the club are now totally over subscribed, however there are places still left for age groups P4, P6, P7 and Maxi. The club train on Sundays at 2pm and welcome any new girls and boys interested in taking part.
