Throughout the 2006/07 season Neil was included in the Irish squad during the Autumn Internationals, Six Nations and earned himself a place in the Argentina Tour in June 2007.
Neil also picked up his 100th cap for his province during the 2006/07 season winning 18 caps for Ulster and cementing his position as a fan favourite, Neil proved himself to be a fearsome opponent and few will forget his hard hitting form during Ireland’s victory over Australia at Lansdowne Road in November.
The 28-year-old, who is a firm fans' favourite thanks to his determination on the field and good humour off it, picked up his 100th Ulster cap last season and scored three tries in 12 league games.
This is the third year of the “Ulster Rugby Supporters Club's Player of the Season” award scheme. The perpetual trophy was sculpted by Bob Sloan, a member of the URSC.
The previous winners have been Matt McCullough in 2004/05 and Justin Harrison in 2005/06
