The scheme which was aimed at P5s from Non-Traditional Rugby Playing schools saw 250 kids take part in the finals day. For most of the kids this was the first time that any of them would have competed against other schools in any form of sport.
Commenting on the Tag Rugby Scheme Jonathan Quigley, Community Rugby Development Officer (IRFU Ulster Branch) said “All the boys and girls have had great fun learning rugby which is a new sport for most of them. They all enjoyed getting the ball in their hands and running with it, scoring as many tries as possible. There has been a lot of smiles and laughter during the scheme, all the signs that they are having a great time”.
This scheme promotes rugby at the grassroots level, which goes a long way in the promotion of rugby and sport in general.
Friday saw the culmination of weeks of hard work and training for the kids from each school as they played off against different schools and having fun while doing so.

The organiser of the event would like to thank all the schools for taking part in the scheme and for bringing the kids along on the finals day. They would also like to thank Ulster Player Jarlaith Carey for attending on the day and finally City of Derry Rugby Club for allowing use of their facilities.
