Leinster began strongly and got off the blocks first when Felix Jones touched down in the corner, Fergus McFadden added the conversion to push the hosts into a 7-0 lead.
On 15 minutes, McFadden scythed through a gaping hole in the Ulster midfield for his side’s second try of the evening after a period of sustained pressure, picking up a knock for his troubles and James Power stepped up to take the conversion which fell wide of the upright.
Ulster rallied and Simon Danielli scored in the corner after some good work from Darren Cave – with David Humphreys, playing in his fiorst match of the season folloiwng an ankle injury, converting – to reduce the arrears for the visitors.
A Mark Kettyle try on 38 minutes, with Leinster down to 13 men after Cameron Jowitt and Kevin Sheahan were separately sin-binned, followed by another Humphreys' conversion pushed Ulster into a 14-12 lead at the interval.
However, in a stop-start second half it was Leinster who emerged the winners after McFadden added another penalty a minute after the break and Conor McInerney was later rewarded for a strong display with the home side's third try of the evening.
