Get Your Kit Off Ref!

Ulster’s rugby referees have joined forces with Friends’ School, Lisburn, to support the IRB backed SOS Kitaid, a non profit making charity founded by a rugby mad dad who saw for himself the plight of Romanian youngsters during a school rugby tour to Romania.
SOS simply collects unwanted/outgrown rugby kit from 400+ (and growing) UK rugby schools/clubs/kit manufacturers and referees' societies.  They then send it, with the help of the IRB, via bona fide country rugby federations to help the development of junior rugby in less advantaged countries by kitting out youngsters. There are thousands of boys/girls desperate to play rugby but their parents simply cannot afford the kit.

The intention eventually is to have 2000+ UK schools/clubs on board distributing kit throughout the world whether it be townships in South Africa, emerging countries like India/Chile or inner city rugby in London or Cardiff.

At their recent pre-season course, the Ulster Referees’ Society collected 10 bin bags full of shirts, shorts, boots and socks, and there is more to come.

Anyone with unwanted kit can contribute by passing it on to a Rugby referee or by dropping it off at Friends’ School.  They will ensure it gets to SOS. Further information can be found at the official website, www.sosirbkitaid.org.
