The clinic was based around modified games is a training session, where the players work on attack, defence and core skills simultaneously, with the over riding emphasis on player enjoyment.
England U19 Head Coach Nigel Redman said; “We look to develop core skills through games and whilst we’re developing core skills we want to develop fitness. I think the guys ran around for about an hour."
“We look at their passing, their ability to get men to the breakdown and to organise in defence, but all with a fun aspect to it. No contact, lots of running, lots of passing,” Redman said.
Running the coaching clinic was also a way for Redman and the England squad to say thank you to the people of Belfast who have lived up to their reputation as great hosts.
“We’re here for three weeks and we’ve got the people of Belfast and Methodist College (England's training ground) really looking after us and it is great to offer something back.”
He was also delighted with the number of coaches who were in attendance.
“We’ve had a really good turn out of coaches and the players are really enthusiastic and really enjoyed the session.”
A second coaching clinic was held courtsey of the Australian Coaching Staff on Wednesday evening at Ballyclare RFC on the subject of skill development.
