U19 World Championship - Media Volunteer Roles
U19 World Championship: MEDIA VOLUNTEER ROLES

We have a number of volunteer MEDIA ROLES to be filled ahead of the start of the U19 World Championship which takes place in Belfast and Bangor in April. If you have a knowledge of rugby and are interested in JOURNALISM, PHOTOGRAPHY or AUDIO-REPORTING please read on for more information
The U19 World Championship is the third largest tournament in world rugby and will be held in Belfast from 4th – 21st April 2007. Twenty-four teams will compete in the championship and they will divided into two Divisions, A & B.

Match Dates and Times

Division A:
Double-header matches will be played simultaneously at Ravenhill, Deramore and Shaw’s Bridge on the 5th, 9th, 13th, 17th and 21st April. Matches will kick off at 5.30pm and 7.30pm

Division B: Double-header matches will be played simultaneously at Queens, Malone and Bangor on the 4th, 8th, 12th, 16th, and 20th April. Matches will kick off at 5.30pm and 7.30pm on all days except Easter Sunday (8th April) when they will be played at 2.30pm and 4.30pm.

Training for all volunteer media roles will be provided.


Volunteer JOURNALISTS

We are looking for three tournament journalists who can provide a 300 word match report, emailed to the tournament HQ immediately following the end of each game. These match reports will be used on the tournament website, www.irbu19.com and will also be available, rights-free for media outlets around the world to download and use on their own websites, newspapers etc.

These positions offer sports/rugby journalists or media students an excellent opportunity to expand their portfolios and gain invaluable sports journalism experience. It is envisaged that the journalists will have a sound knowledge of the game of rugby and experience of writing match reports.

The report should include details on stand-out players, the nature of the match, the crowd and atmosphere and what the results mean for each side as well as a quote from each coach and captain. The report should be emailed to the tournament headquarters at the end of the match once you have collected the quotes.

Each journalist would cover both double-header matches at a Division A and a Division B venue


Volunteer PHOTOGRAPHERS

We are looking for three tournament photographers who can provide a selection of rights-free action images via email at the end of each match for use of the tournament website www.irbu19.com. These photos will be available for media outlets around the world to download and use on their own websites, newspapers etc.

This role offers photographers or photography students an excellent opportunity to expand their portfolios and gain sports photography experience. It is envisaged that the tournament photographers will have some experience of sports photography

Each photographer would cover both double-header matches at a Division A and a Division B venue.


Volunteer AUDIO REPORTERS

We are looking for three tournament audio reporters to interview team coaches and captains post-match and upload the audio clips to www.irbu19.com, the tournament website. The audio clips will then be available for media outlets around the world to use rights-free as they report on the championship.

This role offers media students or trainee broadcasters an excellent opportunity to gain some invaluable experience in sports reporting. It is envisaged that the tournament audio-journalists will have a good knowledge of the game of rugby, an interest in or some experience of audio-journalism/broadcasting as well as a grasp of the technical requirements of using a mini-disc recorder and uploading clips, although full technical training will be given.

Each audio-reporter would cover both double-header matches at a Division A and a Division B venue.
