Rathmore Tag Blitz

On what turned out to be a perfect day for rugby, the Year 8 classes of Rathmore held a Tag Blitz on Monday 26th February as a culmination of the tag rugby course that had been taught to them in P.E. since January by Kris Donaghy (Lisburn YDO).
42 boys turned out on the day after school to make up 6 teams which competed in 2 groups. The standard from all teams was a huge improvement from the first day in P.E. when the concept of only being able to pass the ball backwards was very much new to a lot of the boys.

Many of the matches were very close affairs, with only one or two tries separating the teams in a lot of cases. But ultimately it was teams C & D which won their respective groups and will go on to face each other in a final at a later date.

The key focus of the day was that the boys enjoyed themselves and possibly sparked an interest in a sport that they had never previously considered.

Thanks must go to Mr. Peden who is the Head P.E. teacher at the school for his generous use of the school’s facilities and time to organise the event and tag courses. Thanks must also be extended to John Nicholl for helping out on the day to referee.
