Justin Harrison - The Interview
3 November 2006, 3:11 pm
By Anne Perry
Justin Harrison called into Ravenhill this week to answer a few questions for www.ulsterrugby.com
How was the feeling in the camp after the highs of beating Toulouse and then the low of being defeated by Llanelli?
We felt very disappointed last Friday; we missed an opportunity to get some valuable points. It made some of us wonder if Toulouse were poor and we were just lucky to win. Our Heineken Cup campaign is definitely not over yet, but last week we were inconsistent and we cant afford to be like that again.

How are you feeling ahead of the Borders game?
We are all very positive ahead of tonight’s game. We have a very different starting 15 to the last 5/6 games but we all understand the importance of heading into November with a win. Tonight is important for players who have been given an opportunity to play, it is chance to show the coaches and supporters that the selection has been justified.

How do you think the Autumn International between Ireland and Australia will go?
It really does depend on the team that Australia field; recent form (Australia v Ospreys) suggests that there isn’t much depth in the squad. If Ireland can get through the South Africa game with no injuries they will definitely be competitive.

What is your opinion on the Irish Team?
They have a very strong squad heading into the RWC due to the success and depth of the provinces. The Irish squad is rightly confident, they are setting goals that will allow them to make the finals of the RWC and achieve well in the 6 Nations.

How do you feel Ulster have improved since you have joined?
As a whole squad we have improved immeasurably, the younger guys coming through are more confident now in their roles as professional athletes.  Mark and Allen are much more comfortable with the squad that they have selected in its entirety and not inherited.  All the players have a willingness to improve their game and to help the other players improve as well.

Super 14 v Heineken Cup
They are two different tournaments played in different conditions.
The Super 14 is high phase, high scoring rugby focusing on ball retention and exposing defensive mismatches.
Heineken Cup is set piece rugby where opportunities are built on from the first phase. But overall there is NO great disparity in the skill levels.

How are you finding life in Northern Ireland now?
I feel much more a part of the community now and I don’t feel like I am just a rugby player from Australia, I feel that I am contributing more to the community and enjoying the craic more now!

Anything else Justin?
Not really, just a massive thanks to all the supporters, they are fantastic! So keep up the good work supporters and see you soon!
