The day started with the U16 (RB Fleming) Cup between Omagh and Monaghan, this was Monaghan’s second final –being runners up last year.  This year they went one better and with 6 tries to one were convincing winners by 39 points to 8.

Omagh scores came from a try by their captain Owen Taggart and a penalty by Ryan O’Neill. Monaghan tries were score by Conor Caulfield, Declan Savage, Robbie Smyth (2), Fintan Treanor and David Savage.  David McGregor kicked 3 conversions and a penalty.

Between the two cup matches, there was a display of mini rugby Ballynahinch P4 lost to Monaghan P4s, and Ballynahinch P6 beat Malone P6.  Ulster Captain and Irish International Simon Best was in great demand for autographs from the Mini-Players.

The U18 (CE Bowman) Cup was contested by Malone and Ballynahinch.
Malone wanting to make it back to back with last year and Ballynahinch wanting to make three title wins this season. (Ballynahinch had won U14 Cup and U16 Plate Finals).

Although the score line of 53-10 to Malone belies the brave contest Ballynahinch made the match.  They battle right to the end. With Richard KcKelvey scoring all Ballynahinch’s points, Penalty, Try and Conversion.

Just after half time Malone had a worked move- after the forwards had taken the ball up to within 10-15 metres of Ballynahinch line.  From the ensuing ruck the ball came out, quick hands from Josh Devitt, Chris Rowan, Stephen Gamble  - neatly finish off by Stephen Delihunt.

Josh Devitt second try was an opportunistic, a scramble for a bouncing ball on the half way line. Stole from the grasping hands of Ballynahinch, side step and a race for the try line.

Malone’s Scorers were David Halliday, Daniel McTeirnan, Josh Devitt (2), Chris Rowan (2), Stephen Gamble (2), Stephen Delihunt, Full Back Chris Whelan kicked a total of 4 conversions – including a long distance one from out near the touchline.

Mr David Workman (Junior Vice President IRFU Ulster Branch) presented the trophies and medals.
