Both sides were determined to play a fast free flowing game, despite the elements, and it was the Larne team who started of in the more determined manner. BRA were able to stem the flow of Larne attacks in the opening period and after Larne had spurned a glorious opportunity to score it was the home team who broke away to open the scoring when Ben Edgar kicked a penalty to give BRA a 3-0 lead.
This spurred the visitors and centre Nathan Barry scored a well taken try which was converted by Lee Millar to give the visitors a 7-3 lead. Shortly before half time Millar increased the visitors lead when he kicked a penalty following an infringement by the home team.
At the start of the second half the game was fairly evenly contested but it was the Larne team who were able to increase their lead when Barry kicked another penalty to put Larne 13-3 ahead midway through the second half.
The BRA team now rallied to play their best rugby and they laid siege to the Larne line. It took a stout defensive performance from the visitors to keep the line intact and it was a delighted Larne team which held on to record a well deserved victory when referee David Mc Killen blew for no side.
Larne now go on to play the much fancied Ballymena Academy side in the semi final of the Northern Bank Ulster Schools' Medallion Shield while Methody host Campbell in the second semi.
Northern Bank Schools' Bowl
In the first of the Northern Bank Ulster Schools' Bowl semi finals Grosvenor GS entertained Foyle and Londonderry College at a very wet Cameronian Drive. Both sides struggled with the conditions but nevertheless the teams served up a tie full of traditional cup rugby.
Grosvenor relied on their light pack inspired by strong performances from Ryan Stewart and Nicky Koch to keep in touch with the visitors who were in a 17-7 lead at one stage.
Good work from Ulster Schools' players Jack Caithness, Chris Warnock and Richard Brady had put them in this strong position. However, the home team were not to be denied and a second half penalty and a last minute converted try ensured a replay in Londonderry.
The winners of this replay will contest the Bowl final against the winners of the Bangor GS v Limavady GS which is due to take place on Saturday 18th February at Ballymacormick Road. The final is scheduled to be played at Ravenhill on Tuesday 7th March.
