Enniskillen’s work at the lineout was impressive winning the majority of them throughout the match. This possession gave Enniskillen the opportunities to put the visitors under pressure, and after seven minutes Harriet Parke almost scored her second try but was caught just short of the line.
Trinity’s forwards were having the edge in the scrums and started to claw their way back into the game. A series of penalties gave Trinity good territorial advantage and only a great period of goal line defensive work under enormous pressure by the home side stopped Trinity bridging the gap in the score. Enniskillen’s forwards were to be commended for the hard work in the loose that saw them forcing a number of turnovers.
Just before the half ended the ever impressive Harriet Parke broke a number of tackles to sprint clear from 30 yards out to score her second try and increase the Enniskillen lead to ten points.
Trinity started the second half well and looked in control but an excellent cross field kick after five minutes was recovered by left wing Marcella McGovern who fed the supporting Brenda Brogan, who showed her skill and pace to finish off the move with a fine try, that again went unconverted for a 15 – 0 lead.
Enniskillen then spend a long period in the Trinity half without managing to break through. Another great cross field kick from Etna Flanagan, having a fine game at outhalf, was gathered by McGovern and looked a certain score, only for the referee to pull play back for an offside decision against the left winger.
The game became scrappy, during which Trinity started to put some phases of possession together and looked threatening. With 27 minutes played the referee was pole axed by an Enniskillen clearance kick that caused a short delay to proceedings. On the re-start Trinity pressed and looked to have created an overlap, but great tackling kept the Enniskillen line intact.
A quickly taken penalty then turned defence into attack for Enniskillen. A long kick and great chasing by McGovern forced play down to the Trinity “22”. After retaining possession for a number of phases Enniskillen looked to have scored another try through the forwards but again the referee penalised the home side to leave the final score at 15 – 0.
A good solid performance by Enniskillen who were playing their first match for five weeks. Trinity return to Enniskillen on Sunday this time to play in the All Ireland Cup.
