Ulster Schools U18 win over Connacht Schools at Enniskillen RFC

The Ulster U18 team traveled to Enniskillen RFC to face a competitive Connacht

team who had proved difficult opposition for both Leinster and Munster.

After 8 minutes Ulster opened the scoring with a well taken line out and

drive with David Johnston (MCB) going over for the score. The conversion

was missed. However 9 minutes later another lineout inside the Connacht

22 resulted in Paul Karriyannis (RBAI) gaining a score converted by Adam

Craig (RBAI). 12-0. Connacht responded with some good driving play from their

forwards and were rewarded with a penalty converted by Alan Gaughan (Athlone

CC). this was to be the only Connacht score. Next, Captain Stephen Douglas

(RBAI) scored a fine try from open play the conversion added by Craig. Some

4 minutes later another score by David Johnston converted by Craig left the

half time score at 26-3. Several changes were made at half-time with the

whole front row being replaced by Gareth Megaw (RSA), Robert Logan (Ballyclare

HS), and Adam Agbokhae (PC). David Funston (F&L’derry C) replaced Andy Moore (BA) . After

10 mins Adam Craig opened the score in the second half with a good solo run,

not converted. 31-3. Some 10 minutes later Adam got another opportunity following

a cross kick from Will Martin (BRA) who had replaced Patrick Harper (BA), conversion

missed. Four minutes later Peter Glass (CCB) made a fine solo break and scored

under the posts and was converted leaving the score at 43-3. Still continuing

to exert pressure Peter Glass again created another score leaving Craig to

add the conversion, final score Ulster 50pts - Connacht 3pts.  This was

the last Inter-pro fixture for the U18 XV, and the Management would like

to express many thanks to all the players involved, and to the schools who

released their players for the Interprovinicial Series. The team played 3

Interpro fixtures scoring 100 points in the process and conceding 40. We wish

the players all the best in their quest for selection at Irish level.
