Employment Opportunities: Development Officers

In conjunction with the Sports Council of Northern Ireland and as part of the IRFU’s (Ulster Branch) commitment to increase participation in Rugby Union at grass roots level a number of new posts have been created.

Community Rugby Development Officers (10 posts - CRDO)

10 Community Rugby Development Officers primarily attached to local colleges of Further and Higher education throughout Northern Ireland who will be responsible for the development of rugby within a designated college and its surrounding catchment area.


Womens Development Officer (1 post - WDO)

1 Women’s Development Officer to assist the Women’s Rugby Development Officer with the continued development of the Women’s game in Northern Ireland.

Applicants for the Community Rugby Development Officers and Women’s Development Officer posts must have a minimum of an IRFU Foundation Level Qualification (or equivalent); a relevant teaching, coaching or playing background, a full driving licence and access to a car for business purposes. 


Referee Development Officer (1 post - RDO)
1 Referee Development Officer responsible for key referee development programmes, the successful applicant will be an integral part of the National Referee Department, reporting to the Director of Referee Development.  They will also report to the CEO, Ulster Branch and work closely with the Society of Rugby Football Referees on agreed issues.

Applicants for the Referee Development Officer post must have current or previous experience as a member of the IRFU Referee Panels; or be a current (or former) active referee with the Ulster Society.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including a sound level of IT experience are required.

All posts will be for a fixed term through to March 2008 with each Community Rugby Development Officer being based at an allocated College of Further and Higher Education and the Women’s Development Officer and Referee Development Officer posts being based at Ravenhill.  Applications are invited from both men and women for the posts being advertised.

Youth Development Officers – Part Time Posts – (YDO)

The IRFU (Ulster Branch) would like to add to its network of club based Youth Development Officers for the 2005/06 season.  A number of vacancies are currently available throughout the province.

Working in conjunction with a nominated local club each Youth Development Officer will be responsible for providing rugby development services primarily to local schools within their identified catchment area.

Applicants for the Youth Development Officer posts must have a minimum of an I.R.F.U. Foundation Level Qualification (or equivalent).  Youth Development Officer posts will be for a fixed period of up to 30 weeks and will be based with a nominated club.
