Royal Belfast Academical Institution edged out Belfast rivals Methodist College in an extremely tense encounter at Ravenhill in the final of the Renault Ulster Schools Cup.
In a wind affected clash at Ravenhill, fierce Belfast rivals Belfast Inst and Methody met in the final of the schools cup once again.  The game started in very physical fashion and that was to continue throughout the entire game, with both sides putting on a tackling display that would put many professional players to shame.

Methody were the first to put points on the board as Right winger Owen McMurray slotted over a difficult penalty on 5 minutes.  This put Methody 3-0 ahead and with the wind at their backs, they were to control the game in the first half.  A few chances went begging for Methody as the final pass seemed to elude them.

Eventually though, they were rewarded for the pressure, on 24 minutes Methody fullback Colin Fenton broke from inside his own half.  He fed McMurray down the right side and the winger showed tremendous pace to race away, he was tap tackled however but still managed to regain composure and side step the  last defenders and race under the posts.  The same player converted putting Methody into a 10-0 lead.

This was the score at half time and it was left to see if they had scored enough points with the wind.  Five minutes into the second half RBAI had their first chance for points, however Out-half Lewis Creighton was unable to convert the difficult kick.  Ten minutes later Creighton made up for the missed kick when he danced through the Methody defence to score under the sticks, he converted aswell leaving the score 7-10.

With 20 minutes still remaining, the game was well poised and either side could realistically snatch victory.  On 57 minutes Inst took the lead for the first time when flanker Michael Young bundled his way over the line to bring the score to RBAI 12 - 10 Methody.  The conversion was missed and the remaining minutes were extremely tense.

Boths sides had chances to score in the dying minutes but RBAI held on for a dramatic win.  A special mention must go to both teams who played the game in the spirit that it should be played.

FINAL SCORE: RBAI 12 - 10 Methody
